New D&D spell 3.5

New Spell

Alorin’s Stunning Strike

Evocation (Force)

Level: Sorcerer/Wizard 4

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 1 standard action

Range: Touch or Close (25’ + 5’/2 levels)

Target: One being or object

Duration: 1 round/level or until discharged

Saving Throw: Yes (partial)

As you make a fist and crush the faceted gemstone, your hand is enveloped with a blue-white magical force.

The magical force surrounding your hand can be used in melee or launched as a projectile. You must succeed on a touch attack if used to strike in melee, or a ranged touch attack if launched as a projectile. The target is struck for 3d6 points of damage and must make fortitude save to avoid being stunned for 1-3 rounds (A stunned creature drops everything held, can’t take actions, takes a -2 penalty to AC, and loses his Dexterity bonus to AC, if any).

The material component is any faceted gemstone, which is consumed in the casting. Ω

New D&D spell 3.5

New Spell

Alorin’s Shadow Strike

Illusion (Shadow)

Level: Sorcerer/wizard 4

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 1 standard action

Range: Personal

In addition, the images also greatly enhance melee damage dealt on a successful hit. Each time the caster lands a hit, so do the images, each causing normal weapon damage excluding bonuses for magic, strength, or skill (roll normal weapon damage for each image).

New D&D spell 3.5

New Spell

Alorin’s Lesser Synchronous Actuation

Enchantment

Level: Sorcerer/Wizard 7
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 swift action; see text
Range: Personal
Target: 2 designated magic items
Duration: 1 day + 1 day/level

Synchronous actuation attunes two magical items to a focal gem that allows the caster to simultaneously activate both items later as a swift action.

The casting of the attunement process takes 10 minutes and requires the caster to be in physical contact with the magic items to be attuned and the focal gem (a gemstone of at least 1,500 gp value). During the attunement process the caster will suffer 1D6 damage which cannot be healed until either he/she speaks the final word of the spell, activating the magic items (a swift action), which consumes the focal gem, or is dispelled by a dispel magic spell which leaves the focal gem intact, albeit non magical. The caster may possess no more than one focal gem at any given time.

Charged magic items activated by Alorin’s Lesser Synchronous Actuation use double the charges for the desired effect, limited use items use twice the number of uses, and constantly functioning items become inert for 24 hours after a single discharge or round of actuation-caused operation.

Alorin’s Synchronous Actuation

Enchantment

Level: Sorcerer/Wizard 8
Target: 3 designated magic items

This spell functions as Alorin’s Lesser Synchronous Actuation, except that it can activate 3 magic items and causes the caster 2D6 damage. The focal gem requires a gemstone of at least 2000 gp value.

Origins Game Fair 2008

Since this was my first time attending the Origins Game Fair, I went with an open mind and was hesitantly hopeful after the crap that was Marcon this year. Origins exceeded my hopes in nearly every category.

Friday afternoon I was looking forward to chatting with my friend who is also one of my favorite authors and world builders, Ed Greenwood. Not more than 20 steps into the con I ran into Ed. Things were off to a good start! Ed and I sat and yacked about the Realms, the gaming industry, and anything else that crossed our minds for a good couple of hours before we headed our separate ways.

I decided to wander around the dealer's room to demo many different games, some of which were good, other not so much, but the experience was still a blast. I grabbed more dice, including two GIANT D20s, one of which is for Lube, a less than scrupulous "roll and snatch" rogue, and a set of Origins commemorative dice, which yielded a D20 that rolled a 20 on its maiden voyage!! To end the day I made my way over to the RPGA room and did several 4th ed. D&D Dungeon Delves, grabbing as many tokens as I could to get the con specific mins (one was a alternate paint cockatrice which looked very cool, and the other a Galeb Dhur that looked like a little brown turd guy. Unfortunately they ran out of Ochre Jelly minis before I had enough tokens for one).

Saturday started, as luck would have it with me running into Ed right as I entered the con as again. We BSed for a bit whilst watching random chainmail & bustier clad vixens walk by, then hit the dealers room where we grabbed some D&D minis as Ed shared some stories of his history in the gaming industry and this or that Realms product. A few hours later Ed's schedule had caught up to him and he had to be off.

I decide to wonder about the con, checking out the different games and stopped by to say hello to a friend in my local D&D club. Then I headed back to the RPGA room for some more Dungeon Delving. After my short delve I attended the KenzerCo. Knight of the Dinner Table Live Reading. I had entered the drawing to read and was selected. I chose to read the part of Brian as we read the groups revenge on ole' Red Gurdy Pickens. After we read we got to roll a D20 to see what prize we got. The guy before me won the "Get your name in KotD" prize. The very next roll I got the "Pick from the list" prize, but the cool prizes were already gone. Prizes aside, I had a great time doing the reading and watching folks have a fun time.

Sunday was a short day. I stopped by to see Ed one last time and get my remaining Volo's Guides signed. I wished him well on his return trip home to Canada and got one Dungeon Delve in before they shut the event down. I hit the dealer's room one last time and called it a con.

I wish my close friends could have attended with me, but I had a fantastic time and enjoyed wallowing in some hard core escapism for a few days. I am looking forward to Gencon this year and hope it is equally as fun.
